Irene Rachel Griffore-Williams
(September 19, 1922 - January 8, 2012)
Irene Rachel Pendleton Griffore-Williams, 89 years, died peacefully on January 8, 2012 in Everett, Washington after a lengthy illness. Born September 19, 1922 in Litherland (Liverpool) England, she spent her childhood in England and Scotland with her parents James and Rachel Milne Pendleton. In 1940, she married a Welshman, Garfield Joseph and they had a son, Robert Henry Joseph (Evans). It was World War II and Garfield would never return from the battlefield in Solarno, Italy. She met William (Bill) Evans at the end of the war and came to Ellensburg, Washington as a war bride. They had 2 sons, James (Jim) and William (Newell) Evans. She is predeceased by Newell. After a trip back to England on the Queen Mary II, the Evans family moved to Anchorage and Kenai, Alaska. Later she would marry Keith Griffore (Machias, Wa.) and spend the rest of her life in the Snohomish county area. Her late in life marriage to Richard (Rick) Williams was a happy one. Both husbands have predeceased her.
Her life's work was spent working at various nursing homes in Snohomish, Washington. She also worked as a private caregiver. She had a passion for acrylic and oil painting which she gave to friends and family. Her other passion was local live theatre production. All things "FROG" were in her garden and around her home. She also loved birds, especially Finches. Later in life, at least 2 cats kept her company. Irene is survived by son, Bob Evans, Leavenworth, Wa. and Sherry Evans of Anchorage, Alaska; Jim Evans of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren-Jeremy Evans, Cameron Evans, Aron Shawback, Bridget Shawback Scott, K.Kekoa Peterson Iaea, Jennifer Straumann-Iaea, C. Kainoa Peterson; and 6 great-grandchildren, Evan, Erin, Hayley, Elijah, Keala and Ella. According to her wishes, her ashes will be scattered on the Kenai River, Alaska. Celebration of Life reception will be held this Sunday, January, 15, 2012 at The Hurricane Cafe (2230 7th Avenue, Seattle,Washington 98121) from 2 pm to 5 pm.
