Josephine Benita "Bening" Salting Flores

 

Beloved wife of WWII Navy veteran Severo "Roy" Flores (deceased), strong mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away October 31, 2016. She was born February 4, 1925 in Stockton, California  and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She moved the family and relatives to Seattle in 1949 and remained as the matriarch of her growing family.  She is survived by her sister, Rosalinda "Celing" Aspiras. Children: Roy (deceased), Larry, Linda Divina, David (deceased), and Teresa; Daughter-in-laws: Angeles Quintero Flores and Deborah Fleming Flores; Grandchildren: Shawna, Lara, Lisa, Dina, Marisa, Brian, Joanna, Jason and Jennifer. Great-grandchildren: Alexander, Allison, Marcellus, Graciela, Benjamin, Matthew, Nathan, Marius, Brayden, Makai and LeVeon as well as many relatives and friends from Seattle, California, Arizona and LaUnion, Philippines.

 

Josephine worked at Jen-Celite as a seamstress for over 20 years, Bake-Rite Bakery and owner of The Family Thrift Store after retirement.  She was also an active member of the Filipino American Widows of Washington (FAWOW), Filipino American Women's Club,  Filipino Youth Actives of Seattle (FYA), the Filipino Community of Seattle and a long time parishioner of St. Teresa and St. Edward Parish.

 

She enjoyed raising  her family and grandkids, pets, traveling to the Philippines, Mexico and Europe, thrift shopping, sewing, quilting and gardening. She co-led the Salting Family reunions at the intergenerational bi-annual events in the Philippines with her Salting/Alviar cousins and Lydia Salting Nailog.  She led and followed her vision of a happy and caring family for all.

 

Viewings: Columbia Funeral Home, Thursday, November 10th from 2pm-7pm. Vigil Service with Rosary: Columbia Funeral Home, Thursday, November 10th at 7pm. Funeral Mass: St. Edward Church, Saturday, November 12th at 10:30am. Entombment: Holyrood Mausoleum.
