Ruth Frances Gough Richmond

Born August 18, 1918 to Arthur P. and Frances R. Elliott Gough at the family home at 1538 Rainier Ave., Seattle, WA. The home was built by her grandparents George C. & Ruth E. Robinson Elliott in 1902. Ruth passed away on April 5, 2015. She attended Colman Grade School and graduated from Franklin High School in 1937. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Capt. John D. Richmond, Sr. and sons, Lawrence A. "Larry" Richmond, and John D. Richmond, Jr., brother Arthur G. Gough and granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Newcomb. She is survived by her daughter, Frances-Ann Burnside and son-in-law Bruce W. Burnside of Sun City, AZ, grandchildren Kyle J. Richmond, Summer D. Richmond, and Malissa A. Newcomb, and great-grandson Kenneth Rogers III. Ruth also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ruth was a secretary at Rainier Beach High School from 1964 - 1980, President of the Seattle Assoc. of School Secretaries, President of Toastmistresses, and a member of Seattle First Methodist Church, and Skyway Methodist Church where she played the organ for services after moving to Rainier Beach in 1956.

Ruth had lived at The Lakeshore Retirement Community since 1999. She was the last surviving second generation relative of King County pioneers George C. and Ruth R. Robinson Elliott who homesteaded in the Newcastle area in 1881. Ruth loved to bake chocolate chip cookies, play cards, butterflies, sewing, travel, country music and the Mariners. She and her husband were square dancers. She traveled with her husband as he attended various Seattle Fire Fighter Union 27 activities. Ruth will be remembered as a caring person, the best grandma ever, and a great friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Medic One or The Muscular Dystrophy Association may be made in Ruth's name.

A memorial service will be held Sat., May 2nd, 2015 at 1PM at The Lakeshore, 11448 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98178.
