Giovanni (Gio) Springolo

On Thursday, November 7,2019, Giovanni (Gio) Springolo, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, passed away while hiking in the mountains with friends.

Gio was born and raised in Torino, Italy on February 7, 1939 to, Malvina and Vittorio.

Gio worked in Aerospace for Alenia and in 1970, he arrived in Seattle on a work collaboration with Boeing. Shortly after arriving in Seattle he met the love of his life, Kathy Pietromonaco. In the PNW, Gio discovered his love for the outdoors. Gio and Kathy went hiking, skiing and camping. They spent their early years together traveling the United States and foreign countries. In 1980 the two married and moved to Torino, Italy. During their time in Italy their daughter Daniela was born. The family’s time was spent going to the mountains almost every weekend to either hike or ski. After Gio retired from Alenia the family returned to Seattle.

Gio had a true love for the outdoors. When he wasn’t home working in the yard, he was out on a bike ride or a hike in the mountains where he captured the beauty of the nature he loved with his photography. He looked forward to his weekly hikes with his hiking group. He treasured his friendships with his lifelong friends in Italy and in the United States. Gio was a man of many talents, from his gardening and photography to his artwork.  

Gio touched the lives of everyone around him with his passion for life and contagious energy. The boundless and selfless help he gave his family and friends is immeasurable. He will be immensely missed and our love for him will live in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Daniela, Daniela’s partner Jordan and his son Maddox, his sister Liliana, his niece Valeria and her husband Roberto.

There will be a celebration of his life at a date to be determined.

Giovedì 7 novembre 2019 Giovanni (Gianni) Springolo, amorevole marito, padre, fratello, zio e nonno è mancato nel corso di un’escursione in montagna con i suoi amici. 

Gianni era nato e cresciuto a Torino, in Italia, il 7 febbraio 1939 da Malvina Santin e Vittorio Springolo. 

Gianni ha lavorato nel settore aerospaziale per Alenia e nel 1970 era arrivato a Seattle per un programma di lavoro in collaborazione con Boeing. Poco tempo dopo il suo arrivo a Seattle ha conosciuto l’amore della sua vita, Kathy Pietromonaco. Nel Pacific Northwest Gianni aveva scoperto il suo amore per i grandi spazi aperti. Gianni e Kathy hanno fatto escursioni, sciato e campeggiato. Hanno passato i primi anni insieme viaggiando negli Stati Uniti e all’estero. Nel 1980 si sono sposati e si sono stabiliti a Torino, in Italia. Negli anni passati in Italia hanno avuto una figlia, Daniela. La famiglia è andata in montagna quasi ogni weekend per fare gite e sciare. Dopo che Gianni è andato in pensione dall’Alenia la famiglia è tornata a Seattle. 

Gianni aveva una grande passione per le attività all’aria aperta. Quando non era a casa intento nel  giardinaggio, era fuori per un giro in bicicletta o un’escursione in montagna, dove catturava la bellezza dell’amata natura con la macchina fotografica. Aspettava impazientemente le camminate settimanali con il suo gruppo di escursionisti. Coltivava le amicizie con i suoi amici di tutta una vita in Italia e negli Stati Uniti. Gianni era un uomo dai molti talenti, dal giardinaggio alla fotografia e alle sue creazioni  artistiche. 

Gianni toccava le vite di ciascuno intorno a sé con la sua passione per la vita e la sua contagiosa energia. L’aiuto sconfinato e altruista  verso la famiglia e gli amici era incommensurabile. Ci mancherà immensamente e il nostro amore per lui vivrà per sempre nei nostri cuori.  

Gli sopravvivono sua moglie Kathy, sua figlia Daniela, il compagno di Daniela (Jordan) e suo figlio (Maddox), sua sorella Liliana, sua nipote Valeria e il marito (Roberto). 

Ci sarà una commemorazione della sua vita in data da determinare.
