Gloria Myre

Gloria June Myre 1925-2017 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the passing of Gloria June Myre, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, on January 11, 2017 at the age of ninety-one. Born in Colfax, Washington on February 21, 1925 to Harry and Phyllis Chambers, she grew up in a loving and supportive household in Pullman, Washington. After high school, she joined the women entering the workforce to support the troops through World War II, and then attended Washington State University where she graduated with a degree in Social Work. It was in college where she met the love of her life, David. The two married after graduating, and had four wonderful children. Gloria was ahead of her time. She wanted it all: career, family, and happiness. She went back to school for her master’s degree once her children were in school and found the field that inspired her: Early Childhood Education. Through her passion, she was able to start the first Father-Infant classes in the country at Seattle Central Community College, and traveled abroad to observe various teaching styles. Early Childhood Education was truly her passion, and when her children gave her grandchildren, she poured all her knowledge from ECE into her grandchildren, often exposing them to different cultures, or just going for walks and pointing out all the surroundings. She took the time to hear them and was the best grandma anyone could ask for. Much to the embarrassment of her children and grandchildren, Gloria made friends with everyone she met, her smile leading the way. She approached everything with a positive outlook. It didn’t matter how dire the circumstances, Gloria could find the silver of hope in any situation. Gloria and her husband of sixty-five years, wanted to see as much of the world as possible, and traveled with great frequency, enjoying the different cultures they encountered. Her life was a full one because she didn’t believe in sitting passively by while everything went on around her, she went out and experienced it. While she leaves a hole that is too big to be filled in the hearts of those that loved her, perhaps we can learn from her example: experience life to the fullest! Gloria is lovingly remembered by her brother, Bruce Chambers, her children, David, Tim, Patti, and Cindy, her fifteen grandchildren, and her eighteen great grandchildren. A celebration of life will commence on February 11, 2017 at 1pm at her home in South Seattle. Private inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery. Cremation arrangements by Columbia Funeral Home.
