John Edwin Randall

John Edwin Randall joined his wife Joan and our Lord, December 12, 2018 at the age of 89.  John was born March 23, 1929 at Providence Hospital in Seattle, WA to Gerald and Ellen (Felton) Randall. John was the eldest of 3 sons which included brother’s Gerald (Bob) and William (Bill).  John attended Concord Elementary and Cleveland High School.  Upon graduation in 1947, while working as a truck driver for his Father’s Trucking Company, he joined the Seattle National Guard. He was activated into the United States Army on August 14, 1950 and served in Battery “C” 770th AAA at Camp Murray and Camp Hanford.  While at Fort Lewis he met a beautiful young volunteer at the medical clinic named Joan Helen Fotheringill.  Sargent First Class “SFC” John E. Randall was honorably discharged on May 22, 1952 and he and Joan were married October 11 1952. The young couple first made their home with John’s parents until purchasing their own home on Beacon Hill in Seattle.  John returned to work as a truck driver for his family’s business until he was hired as a truck driver for the Seattle Engineering Department (SDOT) in 1952.  John and Joan’s family grew to include son, David John in 1963 and daughter, Jane Katherine in 1965.  In 1967 the family moved to a new home built in the Rainier Beach area and John continued to work for SDOT.  Over the next 39 years, he had many roles and held many titles, including his final position as Director of Street and Bridge Maintenance when he retired from SDOT in 1991.  John and Joan loved to travel and spent many of their retirement years together traveling extensively throughout Europe and the Hawaiian Islands.  John was proceeded in death by wife Joan in 2003, daughter Jane Sepulveda in 2014 and brother’s Bob and Bill Randall.  He is survived by his son David John Randall along with many nephews and nieces.  Viewing will be held on December 27th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Columbia Funeral home 4567 Rainier Ave S., Seattle. Funeral Mass will be December 28th at St. Paul’s Catholic Church 10001 57th Ave South, Seattle.  with Rosary at 9:30 am, Mass at 10:00 am followed by procession to Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE 240th St. Kent, for Graveside Service at 2:00 pm.
