Joseph Karduck Obituary

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Joseph Andrew Karduck, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 44. Joseph (Joe) was born on July 27, 1975 in St Louis, MO to Ruth Anne and Bill Karduck. He received his degree from Webster University in 2008 in International Business and led operational transformation at organizations including Starbucks and University of Washington Medical Center. While focusing on his career, Joe was also gearing to fulfill his dream to be a pitcher in Major League Baseball. While injury interrupted Joe's pitching career, his lifelong passion for baseball and all 'ball sports' remained an anchor in his life and community. On May 18th, 2012, Joe's world changed once again with the birth of his daughter, Anamika, as he became an exceptionally devoted, loving, and proud father. On September 22, 2017 surrounded by friends and family at his favorite winery, Joe married the love of his life, Leslie Lorenz.

When Joe arrived in Seattle his first move was to find a good sports bar to ensure he never missed a game -- whether it be the Cardinals, Seahawks, Huskies, Mariners, or one of dozens of Fantasy teams' he followed -- and Buckley's on Lower Queen Anne became the spot. With his witty sense of humor and uncanny ability to befriend everyone around him, he quickly became a central figure in the Buckley's community, watching sports and hanging out with his "second family" most weekends. Joe's love of community translated into his love of hosting and bringing people together. He was an accomplished cook -- whether that was smoking meat all day or perfecting an authentic French Cassoulet. Joe found his perfect match with Leslie, and together they maintained a revolving door through dinner parties, backyard barbeques and casual get-togethers with friends. Joe's love of cooking was matched only by his penchant for finding the perfect wine. Leslie and Joe spent many an afternoon tasting and compiling an impressive collection, and he often daydreamed of founding a vineyard of his own.  While Joe's life was cut short he strived to live it to the fullest, and made a point of appreciating those around him. He said "I love you" freely and frequently. He welcomed everyone, without judgment, into the Buckley's community as well as his own home. And he gave the world's best hugs.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Anne. He is survived by his wife Leslie, his daughter Anamika, his father Bill, his siblings Bill, Lori, Karen, and David, and many dear friends whom he considered a part of his family. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at the Buckley's on Queen Anne at 4 o’clock p.m. Donations can be made in Joe’s honor to the American Heart Association - Team Karduck.
