DASHANEA MARIE HOGANS
Dashanea Marie Hogans of Seattle, WA passed away on Sunday January 2, 2022. Dashanea, affectionately known as Nay or Nay Nay, was born May 27, 1980 in Seattle, WA to Sylvester Anthony Hogans and Sheila LouAnn Taylor. Nay gave birth on September 23, 2010 to her only child, a son named Terrence Michael Anthony Brown.
A lifelong south end Seattle resident, Nay attended Dunlap and Rainier View Elementary Schools, South Shore Middle School, and Rainer Beach High School. She was awarded a scholarship in high school that allowed her to pursue her associates degree at Seattle Central Community College. Nay worked for several years as the Bookstore Manager at the South Seattle Community College Campus.
In her spare time Nay enjoyed reading, writing poetry, crocheting, listening to music and writing songs, and staying in close contact with friends and family. She loved watching the older TV shows she grew up watching with her maternal "Big Mama", which is where she developed her love for the TV show "The Golden Girls".
Nay will be remembered as a fun loving and nurturing person. She had the ability to make friends easily with her outgoing personality and became the center of attention in any room she entered. To know Nay was to know her love for her son, Terrence, and all things Purple, S.O.S. Band, Golden Girls and Allen Iverson! She had a lovely singing voice, often duetting with friends and family without hesitation. She fell in love with the song "Cousins" from the old school "Patty Duke show", convincing her cousin Tru to sing it with her whenever they were in each other's presence.
Nay was raised in a very close-knit family. Her cousins were more like her brothers and sisters; her maternal aunts (Auntie San, Auntie "NeNe" and Auntie Audrey) were more like second mothers; her paternal uncles were more like second fathers. Nay is survived by her son, Terrence Brown and mother Sheila Taylor of Seattle, WA. Sisters Venieka and Sherrice Hogans, and brother Sylvester Norwood of Dayton Ohio, and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Sylvester Anthony Hogans, paternal grandparents, Rose Marie Baker and Cecil Leggette, maternal grandparents, James Leroy ("PawPaw") and Virginia ("Big Mama") Aaron-Taylor, maternal uncles, Michael Taylor, James Taylor Jr. and Gregory Taylor, Sr., and first cousin, Gregory Taylor Jr.
If you can not attend in person, the family invite you to be apart of the visitation on Friday at Columbia Funeral Home via Zoom.
