Dominic Bui Obituary

Dominic Bui (aka Thu Kim Bui) passed away on June 24, 2020 in Bothell, WA with family by his side and after receiving the Last Rites.

 

Mr. Bui was born on 1930 in Thai Binh, Vietnam. He married his wife, Mrs. Nguyen Dinh, in 1955 at the Pastoral Center of Redemptorist Church, Saigon, Vietnam.

 

Before 1975, he worked as a government official, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). After 1975, he spent nine years in Vietnam Communist Party re-education camps. After being released and trying to escape Vietnam Communist regime several times, he went to Thailand and finally settled in Seattle, WA in 1992. Since then he had tried to bring all his family to the United States. His wife and all children, but one, have joined him here.

 

Mr. Bui was an accomplished armature writer. Writing was his hobby and his pen name was Thu Hoang Bui (Bùi Hoàng ThÆ° in Vietnamese). In 1964 he joined the Vietnamese association for writers, officially known as Vietnam P.E.N. Club. Before 1975, he published four full-length novels. His first one “Nang,” or “Woman” in English, was made into a movie in 1964 and stars the famous Vietnamese actress Tham Thuy Hang. He also wrote for several weekly and monthly newspapers. After living in the US he self-published two more books in Vietnamese.

 

Mr. Bui is survived by his wife Nguyen Dinh, his three sons and their spouses Tan Bui and Phuong Lam, Tien Bui and Lien Nguyen …, Lich Bui and Diep Nguyen; four daughters and their spouses, My-Van Bui, My-Trang Bui, Phung Bui and Thao Nguyen, Hao Bui and Nghi Pham; grandchildren, Duy Bui and Hoa Pho…, Thao Bui (Escrava Isaura), Vyvy Bui, Duyen Bui, Anh Bui,  Kody Pham, and Colin Pham; plus two great grandchildren, Ngoc Bui and Ngan Bui …, and his many nephew and nieces.
