Obituary

Eusebio Zaire Massó was born on November 20, 2000, in Seattle, WA.  He came after a long labor surrounded by his family and his great grandmother Eleanor. During labor, she left his birth at one point because she was so worried at the loss of either his mother’s life or his life. When he survived, she named him Raffi, after a child she had lost. That was one of his many to be nick names.  His mother decided on Eusebio, the forefather of our family. He finally did make it, with his family around. At one point his mother was alone in the hospital, and she woke up to find him taken from her and admitted to the NICU.  She refused to leave his side and took him home against the hospital’s orders. He grew, he thrived, he fattened, his cheeks were so fat you couldn’t see his eyes.

He was a spirited child always curious and looking for adventure. In the beginning he didn’t speak words, he would just roar like a lion; we just went with it. After that his first word was brea(d).

He loved his culture, being Puerto Rican, playing Bomba, the beach, the waterfalls. Puerto Rico was where he felt most at peace, he spent most of his summers there and lived there with his sibling DeDe for a few years during the pandemic. The years he spent with his family back home were the happiest times of his life and the memories made there will be cherished forever.

He continued with this adventurous spirit as he got older, always looking for a thrill or ways to stay “active” as he would say. He was at peace in nature. He loved hiking. He loved being out on the ocean, in a waterfall, at a riverbed.  He was an old soul who understood the meaning of love, compassion, and loyalty. Eusebio belonged to a large village of aunties, abuelitas, tios, Uncs, bros, and cousins. They say it takes a village to raise a child but no matter where he went Eusebio cultivated a village around him.

In an accident, Eusebio once died in the mud at the bottom of a ravine. He came back to us physically, but his soul never left the deep mud, the earth that soothed him. He grew tired of the many side effects of the accident and his mind would rarely sleep. Now Eusebio can finally rest. He can finally travel the world. He is free from all the burdens and worries that tormented his young soul. He is free to come and play pranks on us while we sleep, with his cute little crooked smile. Our elders who have moved on before him await him with open arms to soothe and heal his soul, to help him earn his wings in the afterlife.

Eusebio sadly lost his life with three of his friends, including his best friend AaLiek Davis, on the morning of August 5th in a motor vehicle accident. Fa’afeai Roeshar, Jolaine Monroe and Jaliza Ray Alabe also perished in this accident and remain in our prayers.

Eusebio is survived by his mother, MariSol Massó, Father, Shakir Lincoln; Siblings – Olandé Albizu, Nico Patrick, Layla Amor, and Selena Simone.  His Great Grandmother Abuelita Irma, Grandparents – Jose and Carmen Massó; Grandma Carletta and Grandpa Hugh, his Uncle Ray, Uncle Sonny Jr., Aunty Theresa, Titi Nydia, Tia Maria, Uncle CJ, Titi Mona, Uncle Tony, Titi Norma, Tio Mario, Tio Carlos, Uncle Butch, Aunty Divina, Tio Vitin, Titi Brunilda, Tio Tato, Titi Laura and Tia Irma Sosa. Cousins Anais and Jose Jr., Butchie Jr, Beya, Angie, Sonya, Brooklynn, Reagan, Vernon, Kaya, Carmelo Jr, Shelby, Tim, Clint, Amy, Michelle, Billy, Maritza, Yaritza, Jessie and Maria. His extended village of elders Grami Marta, Abuela Judy, Grandma Velma, Abuela Olga, Grandma Edna Sarah, Titi Sharon, Titi Liz, Titi Tina, Titi Shana, Titi Jannes, Tio Dennis, Tio Omar, Tio Steven, Tio Carlos, Tio Angel, Tio Oti and Titi Naomi, Teacher Sylvia, Teacher Roxana and Teacher Ana Vilma. His village of primos Azure, Elizza, JJ, Dennis, Malayah, Omar Jr., Lucas, Crystal, Mya Marie, Nikki, Carlitos, Isolina, Reynaldo, Alafia, Keylina, Ori, Zaire, Aiden, Pooh, Niyah, Olivia, Ryder, Luis, Hiram, Xavier, Adonis, Farid, Claudia, Shakti, Beautiful, Vershan, DaMarco, Josh and Isaiah… and his love Coco. Eusebio was also loved by numerous other cousins, Uncs, Tias, Bros, lovers, and friends – too many to even name.

His Godmothers – Titi Chavely and Titi Cynthia were his second mothers and held a very special place in his heart and we know he will forever be watching over them in their sorrow.

Eusebio loved his family more than anything. He even had Family Over Everything tattooed on his arm backwards because he was silly like that. He is joining many loved ones in heaven and will always be our guardian angel.
