On Monday, May 11 2020, Gabriel Elid Gallardo, loving husband and father of three, lost his battle with colon cancer at the age of 55. He was born to Luisa Marquez and Atilio Gallardo in Purranque, Chile. Attending the University of Washington, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography, a Master of Arts degree in Geography, and a PhD in Geography. On February 8, 1986 he married Veronica Maria Villarreal. They raised two sons, Adrian and Daniel, and one daughter, Stephanie.
Gabriel spent his life in education, working at the University of Washington for over 27 years, most recently as an Associate Vice President in the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity. His passion for educating and mentoring students from marginalized backgrounds left a strong impact on generations of students. He was known for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and his ability to entertain at all times, particularly with his dance moves.
Gabriel was preceded in death by his father, Atilio. He is survived by Veronica, his wife of 34 years, his children Adrian, Daniel, and Stephanie, his granddaughter Elise and many loving relatives in Washington State and across Chile. Due to the statewide stay-at home order, no funeral service will be held at this time. There will be a community memorial service held when the order is lifted.
