Irene Lyle Obituary

                     Irene Agnes Lyle, (Wyman, Boxrz)

January 11, 1926- August 21, 2018

Irene Agnes Lyle passed away quietly and went to be with the Lord at 4:45 AM on August 21, 2018.

Irene had a long adventurous life of 92 plus years. She was most happy spending time bowling, dancing or playing golf with her friends and husbands.  She was a dedicated; mother, wife, Grandmother, good friend to many, St. Paul’s supporter and a devote Catholic. Irene was born to Alma and Vivian LeMay on January 11, 1926 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. The family moved to Carrollville (now Oak Creek), Wisconsin when Irene was two where she attended Otjen Grade School. At the age of 12 the LeMay family moved to Seattle where her Dad started a job working for his brother’s car business in the Columbia City district. She graduated in 1944 from Immaculate High School in Seattle. In the summer of 1943 she met her future husband Willard Edward Wyman “Slim” at a roller skating ring during his 6 week basic Navy training at Sand Point Naval Air Station.  They wrote to each other every day during the war. Shortly after Slim returned from Cuba, where he had been stationed as an airplane mechanic, they were married on July 14, 1945.  Now she is Mrs. Irene Wyman. They had six children, 2 girls and 4 boys within 9 years.  In mid 1955 Slim came down with lung cancer and died October 2nd, 1956 leaving Irene now as a single mother of 6 kids ranging in age from 1 ½ -9½ years old. A book could be written about Irene and her amazing resolve and shrewdness with successfully raising these 6 kids for 12 years after starting out with very little after her husband died.  A tribute to her….all these kids ended up being successful. For family fun the family camped out throughout the state with the Turner family.  During these outings the family always went to mass on Sundays, leaving the woods in the morning and walking into a small town Catholic Church unannounced with the 17 of us, 3 parents and 14 kids. It certainly turned some heads.

Once the Wyman kids were all in school she went to work at Union Tank Works in Tukwila, Wa. as a book keeper. There Irene started dating a widower, Linville Lyle and they married in June of 1967 and now Mrs. Irene Lyle.  Lin, a daughter and a son moved into Irene’s house on 61st Ave. so, in Seattle.  After some remodeling to accommodate the new dynamics everyone settled in.  Irene was now working for the painter’s union in Seattle as a secretary and retired from there after 20 years in 1989. Lin was a wonderful, thoughtful and calming person. They were married for 25 years before Lin’s various vascular issues over the years caught up with him. Lin died in April of 1991. They had spent their time attending to the grandchildren’s various sporting events, traveling and simply enjoying each other.

Then in 1996 Mom introduced us to Louis Boxrz, another gentle soul and they married in 1997.  Louis had a lot in common with her, he liked to bowl, dance and play golf and Louis loved people.   They also enjoyed, traveling and following the grandkid’s events. Louis passed away in the spring of 2009.

Irene spent the next 4 years at her long time home in south Seattle.  The house was sold in 2013 and she moved into Bridge Park unassisted living complex where she resided until the winter of 2017. She then moved to Providence Mt. St. Vincent assisted living until her death.

Irene made it a priority to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If anyone of her friends, neighbors or family needed help she was there for them.  She survived three wonderful husbands. Irene was loved by many.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pauls Cathloic Church  5600 S. Ryan St. Seattle at 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 25th with Reception at the church immediately to follow.  Burial services will follow at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE. 205th, Shoreline, Washington at approximately 1:30 PM.
