Luisa Tomasita “Masing” Costales Felix passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in Seattle, Washington. She was 88 years old.
Masing was born to Andres Draculan and Vivincia Foronda on June 21, 1933 in Burgos, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. She was the 6th child and had 2 brothers, Jaime and Adelino and 4 sisters, Corazon, Lourdes, Precing and Lydia whom all preceded her in death. She attended Saint Mary’s High School and Far Eastern University.
On March 10, 1957, Masing married Leo Costales in Bauang, La Union Philippines and in August of that year, they immigrated to Seattle, Washington. In July 1966, Masing became a US Citizen and changed her first name to Louise. Masing worked in the laundry industry for over 20 years and retired from Overall Laundry in 1995.
Some of the things that Masing loved to do was to sew, crochet, and garden. One of the creations that her children remember are of a pair of matching butterfly shirts she made for Jaime and Franklin.
Growing up, whether it’s holding celebrations at home or going to attend parties, Masing would make her ever so popular “cascaron.” Everyone loved her desert and it was definitely a favorite. It never fails, it would be all gone before you know it. There is definitely a special ingredient that makes it very tasty.
Masing was also known for her love of basketball which all started when Jaime took her to watch her first game - Seattle Supersonics vs. Houston Rockets - at the Seattle Center Coliseum in the mid-70’s, If you entered a house with a TV and it was during the basketball season, rest assured she was in front of it rooting on her favorite team/players.
Masing is survived by her children; Jaime, Franklin, and Editha; Son-in-law JoJo Gaon, and her pride and joy – her grandchildren; Makoa Andres Costales-Gaon and Nahea Toribia Costales-Gaon.
