Obituary

In loving memory of Masako “Bonnie” Bacher.  Bonnie, age 87, passed on the evening of June 30th, 2023.  She spent her last weeks surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Bonnie was born in Osaka, Japan on June 7, 1936.  Her parents passed when she was only 7 years old.  She was raised by her elder sisters Yuriko and Hisae.  She came to the United States in 1954 and worked hard to learn a new culture and language.  She became a citizen in 1956.

In 1965 she met her husband, Ron.  They were married on June 2, 1967.  Ron and Bonnie were constant companions for 56 years of wedded life. They built their home and spent most of their married lives in Seattle just south of Seward Park with short stints in New York and Japan.  They enjoyed playing Bridge together (Bonnie achieved the rank of Life Master with the ACBL) and the occasional trip to the casino for a good meal and a little gambling.

Bonnie had her first child, Sandy, in 1968 and gave birth to James in 1969.  Bonnie’s happiest moment was when she found she was going to be a mother.  Her children gave her 4 beautiful grandchildren, Eleni Fakaosi, Jillian Bacher, Epoki “Sii” Fakaosi and Kalosi Soane Fakaosi.

Bonnie loved sports.  Whenever there was a Seahawks or Mariners game, you could be sure to find her cheering on her team with Ron in the family room.  However, she found greater joy in watching her grandchildren compete.  She happily bragged about their accolades to friends old and new.

Every person has a core value that defines them.  To Bonnie, it was that family comes first.  She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren.  She was a stern and loving mother instilling in her children a strong work ethic as well as the importance of family.  Bonnie kept an immaculate home and did her best to teach her children how to do the same.  Her friends and family were always well fed.

Bonnie’s grandchildren brought her incredible joy.  She beamed with pride at their accomplishments and spoiled them every chance she got.  She loved passing many lessons on to them like how to make cookies, inari sushi and curry.  Her grandchildren saw the softest side of Bonnie.

Bonnie will be missed by friends and family.
