May Shing Obituary

May Shing was born in Taishan, China in 1929. In 1949 she married Din David Shing, a veteran of the United States Navy working as a Boeing engineer in Seattle, WA who returned to China to meet his wife.

She moved to Seattle to be with him in 1951, and together they raised three children. Over time, she learned to speak English fluently, and earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Seattle Community College. She worked as an accountant for the University of Washington for many years.

She was active in the Seattle Chinese community and was a member of the Jade Guild, a Seattle Chinese women's service organization, where she served as a former president and treasurer. From its founding in the 1980s, she was an avid supporter of the Kin On nursing home.

May was our family’s historian. She recalled every detail of every family member’s life, often better than we remembered our own lives. She knew how to make everyone feel truly seen and loved, and if you were lost, she could provide directions. We are all lost without her.

She is survived by her three children, Joseph, Jean, and Albert, daughter in law Madeline, son-in law-Marc, grandchildren Jonathan and his wife Melissa, Joshua, Douglas and his wife Rebecca, Kevin, and his wife Julietta and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Jackson, Jason, and Alexandra.

May passed away on August 25, 2021.

A visitation will take place at Columbia Funeral Home, 4567 Rainier Ave So, Seattle, WA 98118, on August 31, 2021 from 10AM to 12PM where all friends are welcome. She will be buried in a private service for the family at Lakeview Cemetery.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
