Monico Foronda Ayson was born on March 10, 1936, to Teodorico D. Ayson and Torcuata F. Ayson and raised in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Monico met his wife, Wilhelmina “Elma” R. Ayson, in Santa Maria and married in 1960. In 1968, Monico immigrated to Seattle, Washington, and settled in the Rainier Valley neighborhood.
Monico was a high school teacher at Ilocos Sur Agricultural College and eventually applied for a professional visa to continue teaching and relocate to America. He was assigned to teach in Kansas City; however, his late Uncle Monico (his father’s older brother) convinced him to stay in Seattle instead.
Monico retired from Swedish Medical Center, working in the Nutrition Services Department for more than 30+ years. In 2021, Monico relocated to Bonney Lake with his niece, Divinagracia, her husband, Gerry, and their two children, Mark and Katrina. On April 13, 2023, Monico passed away peacefully at his home.
Monico is survived by his younger brother, Honorio F. Ayson. Monico was preceded in death by his parents, Teodorico D. Ayson and Torcuata F. Ayson. Monico was full of love, joy, and happiness and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
A viewing for Mr. Monico Ayson will be held in Columbia Funeral Home's chapel on Friday, April 28th from 4:00-7:30pm. The funeral mass for Mr. Monico Ayson will be held at St. Edwards church at noon on Saturday, April 29th, followed by a 2:00 graveside service at Greenwood cemetery.
