Peter Sheng Francis

Peter Sheng Francis, 35, of Seattle, Washington passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 as a result of continued complications from severe injuries suffered 11 years ago. These injuries resulted in paralysis, other internal, and brain injuries. He underwent numerous surgeries for spinal and other parts of his body, as a result of injuries suffered, requiring him to attend intensive physical therapy courses and education classes to learn to navigate his condition.

Despite his severe medical limitations, Peter was committed to recovering from his injuries. He was courageous and fought long and hard to aid in his recovery. His self-determination enabled him to keep high personal autonomy throughout the past 11 years, and he remained active and mobile. He would explore the city by public transportation, using his wheelchair to get around; attending baseball and basketball games, taking the ferry, and getting food with his friends and family. He also loved roaming different bookstores with his mother. A year after his injuries, he even travelled with his parents to the east coast to attend his sister's graduation from Princeton. Throughout this time, he enjoyed lots of support from his family, but his mobility remained a source of great confidence and self-value; he was able to get himself to where he needed to go.

Peter was a budding, good artist, before his injury. He often produced detailed, realistic drawings, written essays, and expressive rap lyrics. His artistic endeavors continued even after his injuries, with his assembling of various pictures and other materials from pop culture publications to form unique pop culture collage albums. He often brought these to his father for security and safe keeping. Besides his artistic talents, he brought and left us many gifts of strength and virtue, not the least of which; the valuable gift of willpower, inspiring us to live a purposeful life, no matter the limitations one's confronted with, and the gift of dedication; teaching us to commit to a task at hand, such as caring for others and staying true to our beliefs and goals.

Peter leaves behind his loving parents, Horace and Annette Francis; his supportive sister and brother, Megan and Kendrick; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and family members.

First African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1522 14th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122, will hold a service on September 6th, 2019, at 12: noon, in celebration of his life, followed by burial at Lake View Cemetery.
