Purification Dumalaog Gonzales

Purification Dumalaog Gonzales, 87, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022, with her loving daughter, Joy Gonzales, by her side. Puring was a beloved mother, Lola, Auntie, sister, and friend, and was affectionately known as “Puring” by her family and friends. Her genuine kindness and curiosity to know you as a person made people feel very special. 

Puring was born on February 2, 1935, in Ibajay, Aklan, Philippines.  She is the eldest of five children to Maura Amacio Tonel and Eugenio Masangkay Dumalaog.  Puring attended National Teacher College in Manila.  She immigrated to the United States where she settled in Seattle, Washington where she met the love of her life, Donato Gonzales.  They lived happily as husband and wife with their only daughter, Joy.  Puring was a talented seamstress and worked for various outdoor clothing companies in Seattle.  Puring enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, baking, and sharing beautiful life stories.

Puring was a proud member and pioneer of the Grand Oriente East-West Ladies Chapter #3 in Seattle.  Her hard work and dedication for this organization really shined in the many fundraising events with which she participated. Puring was also a loyal member of the Legion of Mary at St. Edward Church in Seattle where she volunteered her time by bringing prayers to those who could not attend church and in fundraising activities. 

Puring is survived by her daughter, Joy Gonzales and her husband, Earle Bravo; her granddaughters, Maria and Eva Gonzales-Bravo; and her brothers, Jose and Rogelio Dumalaog.  She was preceded in death by her husband Donato in 1994, her brother Rodrigo Dumalaog, and her sister Flordeliza Bagac. 

Vigil will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle.  The Rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. 

The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Church in Seattle.  Burial will follow Mass at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington.
