Obituary

Robert Gordon Holdcroft, age 83, died on the afternoon of May 18, 2023 in Seattle, WA with family at his side. Bob was born in Omaha, Nebraska on Dec 4, 1939 to Frederick Gordon Holdcroft and Doris May Hedley. He spent his childhood on the wind-swept land of West Texas graduating from Dumas High School in 1958. He attended Texas Tech University graduating in 1962 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While at Tech, Bob pledged Phi Delta Theta, and keep up lifelong relationships with his Phi Delt brothers, speaking of them and connecting with them even in his latest years.

Most of Bob’s career was in the Flexible Packaging Industry in Dallas and Huntington Beach, California and then later in the Financial Services Industry. Bob enjoyed sailing and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In the last few years, Bob especially enjoyed being close to his children and grandchildren in Seattle while speaking often of his love for Texas and his wish to return back to the weather and state he loved so much and yet he really loved being with family in rainy northwest (which he did not love). Bob kept his TV on watching his beloved Cowboys as well as the Dallas Mavericks and his Texas Tech Red Raiders. He enjoyed speaking of his fondness for Dallas and its people and he was filled with stories and memories In nearby Irving he began his life as father of two kids with his wife Mary Giesey, also of West Texas. He was known as a very social person and his new Seattle friends described him as a “gentleman” who made it a point of connecting with many people. He loved being funny, chatting and uplifting the lives of the strangers sitting next to him in restaurants or traveling next to him on this road of life. He was a committed family man who pursued finance and the news and relished a good meal with friends and family.

Married first to the wife of his kids, Mary, Bob went on to marry Luellen Easton and two others named Barbara and Susan and if the writer of this obit knew their last names they would be included here. He and Luellen returned back to their partnership, marrying again and then parting as friends and keeping in touch when he moved to Seattle. He was single for his last years but still active in the romantic world. Bob is predeceased by his brother, Raymond Lee Holdcroft and survived by his daughter, Lesley Katheryn Holdcroft, son John Robert Holdcroft, John’s wife Jill Raynor Holdcroft and grandsons SamAngelo Holman (of Lesley) and Hudson Holdcroft and Leo Holdcroft (of John). He also is survived by the family members of his brother Raymond: Raymond’s wife Marie Fenton Holdcroft and their children Richard Holdcroft, Renee Pelt and Alicia Holdcroft as well as Renee’s kids Danielle, Kyle and Jace and Alicia’s daughter Mackenzie.

When raising young children, Bob would often tell his oldest, wondering child not to worry about Death. “There is no alternative,” he said. “It’s up to us to enjoy Life.”  He spoke clearly like that, carrying a distinguished and powerful gift of speech. This showed up everywhere, including in his beloved pastime of gliding lake waters on his boat and operating those ropes and sails. His name for one of his boats really stands out: He called the craft Priority. He was clever and clear like that, attentive and filled with affection for those he loved including his new friends. Bob loved deeply, and many, and will be loved for a long time after his passing this spring.
