Trung Quang Tran

Trung Quang Tran of Newcastle, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the age of 67. He passed peacefully with his wife and seven children by his side.

Trung was born on November 11, 1954, in Ben Tre, Vietnam. He was the eldest of 11 children. Because he was the son of a South Vietnamese soldier, Trung’s childhood was nomadic. The first 11 years of his life were spent moving from place to place until his family settled in Bien Hoa in 1965. There he attended elementary school, completed high school, and eventually followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an artilleryman in the South Vietnamese army in 1973, honorably serving until the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Seven years later, Trung escaped Vietnam with his young son and pregnant wife seeking a better life for his family in the United States.

Trung’s journey brought him to the shores of Washington in 1983. Despite what the war had taken from him, Trung arrived in Seattle determined to provide for his young family. He started his career at Ballard Brass in 1984, transitioning to work for Boeing and eventually retiring from the City of Tukwila after working there for 16 years. He was hard-working and worked tirelessly to provide for his family, retiring only after being diagnosed with cancer.

In his free time, Trung enjoyed gardening, rooting for the Seahawks, and unabashedly listening to Celine Dion and Richard Marx. His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved basking in their successes and being surrounded by them at Sunday dinners. Trung is survived by his wife, Hoa Nguyen; seven children and their families Toan (Theresa) Tran, Thang Tran, Lynn (Khanh) Le, Linda (Brendan) Tran, Steve (Dana) Tran, Lisa Tran, and Lina Tran; 6 grandchildren Annalise, Eleanor, Avery, Christian, Riley, and Evan.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 17, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 10243 12th Ave S in Seattle. Funeral mass to follow beginning at 10:00 AM and burial at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St in Shoreline, at 12:30 PM.
