Vera Elizabeth Chapman (formerly Hayes), age 87, of Fort Walton Beach Florida, passed away on April 21, 2020 at her home.
Vera was born on July 24, 1932 in Wallasey England to Nora Kathleen (Lolley) and Robert William Hayes. Vera immigrated to the United States in 1953, traveling on the Queen Elizabeth. Vera traveled from her point on entry to stay with friends in South Dakota before continuing on the Seattle Washington, where she married John Duwane Chapman in May 1953.
Vera became a US citizen on 14 September 1970. In addition to living many years in Seattle, Vera lived with her growing family in several locations – Seattle and Tacoma Washington (McChord AFB), Belleville Illinois (Scott AFB), Okinawa Japan (Kadena AFB), Goldsboro North Carolina (Seymour Johnson AFB) before settling in Fort Walton Beach Florida in October 1990.
Vera had been active in the community as a member of the Northgate Garden Club, and a member of St Mary Catholic Church. At St Mary she participated in the choir, CCW, and 3rd degree Carmelite.
Vera is survived by her husband, John, her five children; William (wife Susie), Duwane (and his wife Linda), Nancy (husband Kent) Richardson, Kevin (and wife Gina), and Neil. Vera, or rather Nana, is survived by her 11 grandchildren; Tracy, Bryan, Joseph, Alexander, Stephanie, John, Megan, Johannah, Emma, Joel and Alyssa and as Great Nana is survived by her great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Charles, Logan, Gabriel, Audra, Maxwell, Ella, Nicholas, Lillian, Benjamin, Rebeckah, Alivia , John and Hector. She is also survived by her brothers Roger (wife Maureen) and Raymond.
In lieu of flowers, it was Vera’s request that a donation be made to either the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
