I first met Esther a few months before she married my cousin Kenneth. I admired her for the courage with which she held her convictions, for her sweet smile, and for the love she had for her God and her family. It’s more than 60 years since I last saw her, but I felt her presence in Ken’s life as we shared phone conversations coast-to-coast, Seattle to western Maine. I know that she is now with God, as she has been in spirit her whole life. I am sad for Ken and her family, but rejoice in the comforts she now has in the presence of the Holy Spirit. My mother and Esther Thompson were the two women who had the greatest influence in my youth in Crawfordsville, Indiana. They did not waver through life's trials. I never doubted their love though I must have disappointed them. Their words and their music go with me forever. Love everlasting.
