I received an email from a mutual friend that included a link to this website. While I am not sure whether or not this link still accepts condolences, I am posting this hoping that it gets to his family. Buzz and I were in the 62nd TRS at Shaw AFB, SC in 1973. We were a formed crew flying the RF-4C, with me being the pilot and Buzz the weapons system operator (WSO). Buzz and I were selected to lead various fire power demonstrations conducted periodically for politicians, prominent civilians (US and International) and high ranking military. These were normally 4 – 5 hour military expos consisting of mock military activities including demos of combat missions for ground and air forces. Buzz and I always opened the show because the RF-4C tactical reconnaissance fighter jet, in a real war, would be the first element into the combat area and would be required to go very low and very fast and this is what we would have to demonstrate during these military firepower expos. The timing criteria for the low, high speed pass in front of the reviewing stand, was plus or minus 1 second of the time on target (TOT). Not an easy thing to do but Buzz could make this happen routinely. He was very, very good, a total professional and uncompromising as an aviator. I became a better pilot because of it.
Of course, we became very good friends, and my wife, daughter and I spent many hours on the lake with him trying to teach us how to sail and we also enjoyed a number of thoroughly enjoyable “gourmet’ meals he was so good at preparing and presenting. Fortunately, I was able to see Buzz a few times over the years, the last time being in the summer of 2014. It was always great to get together and recall the many experiences we shared. I will miss doing that. He was a great friend and we miss him.

Buzz and I first met 46 years, ago, when in Feb 1971 we were paired together for USAF aircrew training at Shaw AFB, SC. There, we learned to fly RF-4C reconnaissance planes. I was a Pilot, and Buzz was my Weapons Systems Operator (Navigator). We graduated in Aug 1971. Next, Buzz was assigned to the 62nd TRS operational unit at Shaw, and I was transferred to the 14th TRS at Udorn AB, Thailand.

During succeeding years we managed to get together every now and then. Not only was he my good friend, but also a good friend of my wife and children. The last time I saw Buzz was in the fall of 2015 in Seattle, while I was on my way to Vancouver BC to visit my youngest daughter. Then, Buzz got to meet my girlfriend, who was equally charmed by his wit and warmth.

Buzz was good man! He was kind, thoughtful, friendly, smart, and very talented. Though his life was unfortunately shortened, I know that he enjoyed every moment. He traveled a lot, and retired early enough to relax. I and his other friends will miss him, but he will never be forgotten.

Wherever you are now, Buzz, bon voyage!

I am so sorry for your loss losing a loved one in death is never easy. I would like to share something with you that I believe will give you comfort. It is found In the Bible John 5:28,29 " Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those a resurrection of life." This can comfort you to know that you can see your loved one again. My condelenes go out to you and your family.
