Trudie Mae Smith was born in Camden, Arkansas on April 17, 1926, daughter of the late Lelar Bessie Sams. She entered Heaven's gates at the age of 91 on June 2, 2017 - the same day her beloved husband, George Albert Smith, Sr. departed this earthly life in 1986. Her grandparents Tony and Willie Ann Dixon along with her Godmother, Mrs. Amanda Rushton played pivotal roles in her life as a young woman.
Trudie was baptized and dedicated to Christ at an early age and has been a lifelong woman of God with strong faith and conviction. She loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ beyond measure and served him completely.
Trudie moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married her husband of 40 blissful years, "Big George." They loved each other tremendously and were blessed with 11 children, including two sets of twins.
A consummate mother, grandmother and hostess (with the mostest!) Trudie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing the most delicious meals for her family and friends. Over the years, she collected a large library of recipes and cookbooks, many of which were her original recipes. She also loved to watch sports, especially football and baseball.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by three daughters, Shirley Wilson, Renee Smith and Patsy Jean Stinson; one son, Ted LeRoy Smith and two step-daughters Betty Jean Robinson and Sarah Jo Wilson; two brothers, Louie Sams and Samuel Harris; and one sister, Gueneltia (Aunt Gin) Killebrew.
Trudie is survived by one sister, Katie Binns; her sons George Smith, Jr. (Robin), Jerald Smith, Thomas Smith, Billy Rasul, Robert Smith and Ralph Smith; and one daughter, Darlene DuBose. As the matriarch of a very large family, she has a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Trudie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for decades before retiring to a full life of traveling, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends. Trudie was an amazing and special woman who made friends easily and ministered wherever she went. She was a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church.
